I would also like to share a little info about the reigning queen of Cotacachi Jany Alvarez. She is an amazing young lady.
Her platform as a contestant was working with the elderly and homeless, and boy howdy has she been busy. Every Holiday she, and her family, have sponsored a function at their home. They actually go out in the family van and pick up people and take them home again after having had some great food, drinks, even dancing. And each time as they leave Jany hands out a small bag of kitchen staples like, flour, rice, sugar, tea ect. She even planned a special party at their house for the street cleaners. Mind, the city has not given her any financial, or otherwise, support. But a small group of expats, or her *groupies* as we call ourselves, have been helping with great joy. This coming Saturday, June 16th, for Father’s Day she wants to have a little function for the father’s of town, to be held outdoors at the San Francisco Park. She wants to serve a slice of cake with a cup of tea..so far with her family and her *groupies* we have only 6 cakes lined up, so we are asking that if anyone would be interested in helping, please come to the park about 3p.m. with a cake and meet Jany and all of us peons having a great time …she had a big party at Mother’s Day at their home, so fair is fair for the Fathers. Jany has performed many *firsts* as a Queen for Cotacachi. As a side note, the first week of July there is a big parade in Cotacachi, and for the first time ever, she has sent out an invitation to all the other current reigning Queens from every province in Ecuador to come to be in the parade. Well, I could keep gushing, but enough is enough. Hope you can come by on Saturday, with a cake or not, to meet an inspiring young lady.
