Receiving your Container (some steps you might not know about)

An update – Dave had to drop and run to the airport on Wednesday May 8 to sign a document that was missed – but we managed that without a problem another $50 and about 6 hours of travel time. However, with him doing that the docs flew off to Guayaquil in record time (overnight) and they arrived in time for the container to be released. YEA it will be here on Saturday morning May 11, 2013 – will keep you posted!!

So our container is to arrive in EC today April 26, 2013 – last night we get an email. First we were annoyed and then we calmed down. As in all things here in Ecuador – its never planned and you need to drop and run LOL. So we did.

1. Make copies of your passport (just the first page, course we didn’t know that and had to make copies once we got there) then head over to Migration Police office in Ibarra. Being our spanish is not so great yet – we have printed out and taken with us ‘POR FAVOR NECESITO MOVIMIENTO MIGRATORIO PARA MENAJE DE CASA. MI DIRECCION ES: San Miguel Casas y Jardines Manuel Larrea y Pasaje San Miguel, Lot XX’ this is our address. First time we have been in an official office in Ecuador that we were the first in line (Ok maybe things are looking up for us?). We got what is required and now the next part happens on Monday. This is merely a document that states when you have entered and exited the country (offically) and what kind of visa you had at the time you entered.

2. Make color copies of your passport & residency page (all on one sheet) 8 for Dave & 4 for me. Check (that one was easy have a color printer all in one) If I had know we needed a copy for item 1 would have done that before we jumped into a taxi.

3. We had already planned a shopping trip to Mega Maxi with a few others for Monday. So someone will meet us there to sign the final documents required and get them to where the container is. (will keep you posted on this one)

4. Sandra advised that she will begin to clear the container on Tuesday and it will or should be be released in a week. We will have one days notice and it will be here (although she indicated that we could change the delivery date if we wanted too)

… will keep you up to-date on where we are in the process

(note to self – it seems that a very good business here in Ecuador is to have a copier and set up a stand – there is always a need for copies – you should see how busy they were at the notary office in Quito last week)
