Greetings!
I have decided that I will be starting a heath related newsletter that will be entitled Cotacachi’s Health Matters. It will be available online to anyone and everyone, but its main audience will be the group of foreigners who have decided to make beautiful Cotacachi their home.
For those of you who don’t know me, I worked for many years in the US as a Registered Nurse, a Certified Nurse Midwife and a Family Nurse Practitioner. I came to Cotacachi four years ago as a Peace Corps volunteer and was a Community Health Volunteer with the local Cotacachi Hospital. I ended my time with Peace Corps last September and since that time have started doing medical interpretation.
At this point Cotacachi’s Health Matters is still very much a work in progress, but if you would like to be on the mailing list, just send me a message at: elmocat123@gmail.com
I have no idea at this point when the first issue will be ready, but if anyone out there would like to submit articles, send in questions, ideas for articles, etc………anything sent my way will be accepted with open arms!
I would like this newsletter to be a source of helpful information, so don’t hesitate to talk with me about any of your ideas!!!!!!!! The newsletter will cover the entire spectrum of health care from traditional western medicine all the way to the most alternative of alternative approaches. We all need to be and should be informed about all of the options that are out there and available to us!
As a final thought, many of you know that several members of our ex-pat community have recently been experiencing some serious health related issues. This has raised the issue of hospice care or the lack thereof. I know many people feel this is something that is needed here in Cotacachi. If anyone reading this message has had experience working with hospice, knows how to set one up, or would just be interested in being part of a “Hospice Working Group” to explore this possibility for Cotacachi, please send me a message at the above email address and if there is enough interest, I can arrange a time and place for the meeting of the group.
