Based on our experience prices for cabs here has not risen (at least since 2009) through today April 2013. Again this is based on what we have paid to hire a driver.
From Cotacachi you can expect to pay:
– to Otavalo $5 each way
– to Ibarra $10 each way
– to the airport $55 – $60
– to Quito $50- $60
– around Cotacachi $1.25
If you hire a driver to take you shopping (they wait for you) you will pay on average $10 an hour.
I am curious, what prices these taxis charge for a trip to the Airport?
$50-$60 its not really that much closer than the old airport – just no traffic in Quito to deal with
hope that helps
That’s a little disappointing since I heard one of the drivers here say it only takes him an hour to get to the new airport.
We just came back last week, two hours driving and it was late at night. Left the new airport about 10:15pm home to San Miguel (Cotacachi) a little after midnight, I would say its about the same distance.
Thanks……….there are conflicting comments..re time etc. It is a lot easier for the drivers and they do not have the congestion of Quito….one would think, the price should be a little less? However, unless we as consumers, who are paying these taxis….need to establish some maximum payment limits…things will continue to increase….gas costs have not increased here…and the average local person, can not afford a taxi…..so, it is up to us, to keep prices in line and fair!
Agree with you Euni!
Hello everyone – Spent some time in Cotacachi in Feb. 2013, first time and
no Spanish. It seems to me that negotiating is the best approach.Ride Cota
to Quito airport my offer was $40, his counter was 45. Very friendly and
careful driver. Some construction, time 1.45 hrs. Was on time at 6 a.m.
Yellow cab, not a pick up.There was a toll-fee (I think it was $5.00). Two
bags. He spoke no English and I did not speak Spanish, but it was a very
fun ride. Back in Oregon now and learning the language.
Best wishes – stay healthy everyone. Emily
