Many people who are not here already or at the moment, want to know if they can get certain prescriptions and what the cost will be. For $5, I will go the the local pharmacy and if they don’t have it there, I will find out if they carry it in Ibarra: simply e-mail the name of the drug, its generic equivalent (if there is one) and I will take it from there. I have a PayPal account or you may pay me when you get here.

This is not a request for your prescription service, rather a comment regarding prescription drugs here in Ecuador. I find it odd that there does not appear to be any pain medication available here in Ecuador. In my home country,I was being treated for several chronic pain issues with 3 potent pain meds, including percocet, oxycontin and morphine, none of which are available here in Ecuador. Because I must stay here 9 months of the year for 2 yrs to fulfill the cedula requirements, I find myself at odds with whether to spend over $1000 to fly home to bring done large quantities of narcotic drugs (will the doctor prescribe in such high volume and will customs allow it through?) or continue my search here. I just wondered what you know about the situation….especially since Lee has just run into a situation where he required heavy pain meds.
Hi Deb
not sure if this is a solution for you (but its an option maybe) – could your doctor prescribe to a service such as Medco? With some kind of refill system every 90 days? Then have it shipped down to you via Club Correos (it costs $10 to join) – they will give you a PO box in Miami that will forward it down to you here in Ecuador. Medco is the only one I know of that can supply prescriptions for 90 days. Club Correos seems to be about three week turn around – it might solve the problem. Other option I could suggest is trying to see a local doctor with your meds and see if they have another option. Others may have more to say about this – my thoughts for what it is worth – hope it helps!
