So today – I opted to get my Canadian passport photos done so I can get my passport renewal off to Quito. We were told there was a Photographer in the main square, so off we went (today is Saturday). We wait patiently across the street for about 25 minutes until almost 10:30 – nothing opening. I call Freddy (local taxi driver & a great friend) asking him if there is anyone else in town. He says yes there is a guy on Pedro Moncayo. We opt to just walk to see if we can find it, and we did. Foto Splendor about half way in between 10 de Agosto & Juan Montalvo. Great!!!
Ok now the funny part – I had brought with me the ‘photo instructions’ in english. The gentleman is more than helpful has a ruler etc and he measures and measures. I advise (in not such great spanish) that the size shown is not actual it needs to be 50mm X 70mm. So first I get a sheet (6) that are very small ok I can use those for something else – visa’s when we travel never hurts to have more. I call Maya, she explains in great spanish the size requirements, and he tries again. Next I have 4 more photos slightly larger than the first set (ok I am laughing inside but really want this done today). He just keeps measuring them to fit the size on the paper.
We head over to Pranas to pick up fresh milk & Xavier calls him and explains once again. I borrow a tape measure and draw a square 50 mm X 70 mm and go back for another try – woohoo finally 2 passport photos for my Canadian Passport renewal the correct size. I would recommend drawing the recommended size out before you go!
